Definitions and precision

Quartiles use the exclusive-median convention: when there is an odd number of values, leave out the overall median before finding Q1 and Q3. Sample standard deviation divides squared deviations by n − 1; population standard deviation divides by n.

The fitted line uses ordinary least squares with an intercept. A residual is actual y minus predicted y. r² describes the proportion of variation in y explained by this fitted linear model. It is not accuracy, a probability, or proof of cause.

Results display up to 10 significant digits; calculations use unrounded values. Very large values or differences too small for ordinary computer arithmetic may be rejected. Different calculator quartile conventions can give different results.
